Should You Use AI to Virtually Raise the Dead?

I recently brought my grandpa back from the dead with AI.

Well, sort of. As I detailed in my most recent FastCompany article, I uploaded a 1940s photo of Grandpa Max to Google’s Nano Banana and Veo 3, which allowed me to colorize it and then turn it into a video where my grandpa walks out of the frame.

It was really cool. But reanimating departed relatives with AI comes with risks.

SNL hilariously skewered this trend of family photo manipulation in a recent sketch. There’s a two-tailed dog on a BBQ and a grandma obliterated by a nuclear fireballs. And I felt I should weigh in, too.
