Sora Could Take Down TikTok
Earlier this month, OpenAI launched their new Sora 2 video generation model. But they did something else far more impactful—they launched a social network where people can rapidly share their Sora 2 video creations.
Sora the social network is essentially a TikTok clone, where everything is joyfully, unashamedly fake.
You’d think that would be a recipe for awful and boring content. But it’s not. Instead, the escape from the tethers of reality allows people to come up with any idea and immediately create it.
The late Queen of England dissing reporters during a press conference, and then cackling and launching, rocket-like, into the sky? It’s there.
An iconic 1980s TV painting instructor getting kicked out of a Target for scrawling a drawing on the wall? Sora will make it for you.
Here’s my newest article in FastCompany, looking at why Sora is so good that it could take down TikTok.
Today I also took a look at a super interesting—and scary—story about a “Waymo DDoS” prank.
Basically, a San Francisco man ordered 50 Waymos to a single cul-de-sac, effectively shutting down the street to traffic. It’s a vivid reminder of what can happen when AI starts doing things in the real world.
