Yet Another Reason to Start a YouTube Channel

Do it before AI kills the platform

I hate watching YouTube videos. But apparently, I’m in the minority on that.

In 2024, YouTube had 2.5 billion monthly active users. That’s more than 1/3 of the world’s population. Most people watch YouTube for 40 minutes per session.

That’s why—even though I personally hate watching YouTube videos—I’ve run a successful YouTube channel for 10 years. It earns me around $2,000 per month and has almost 2,500 videos.

Now, Google just gave creators yet another reason to start a channel. YouTube videos have been getting a huge boost in Google’s AI Overviews.

How big? Check out my recent Niche Pursuits News podcast episode, where Jared Bauman and I discussed YouTube’s rise, Google’s pivot to “Originality”, and my decision to drive headlong into a deadly snowstorm.
